HEALTHY MISA WOMEN BENEFIT 

Awareness, prevention and early detection is key in the fight against cancer. From 1 January 2025 the Union increased the Healthy MISA Women Benefit to six hundred members to motivate even more of the Union’s female members to do a mammogram or pap smear annually.

“According to a report by the National Cancer Registry of the Department of Health, and the Stats SA’s mortality and causes of death data, female cancer-related deaths increased to 51.2% with Cervix cancer (17.9%) and Breast Cancer (17%) being the highest contributors,” says Keyter. The last date for the submission of claims for 2023 was 29 March 2023.

 

MISA has reached its target of 1 000 members for both Healthy MISA Member and Healthy MISA Women.

Claims for the Healthy MISA Member and Healthy Women Benefit for 2024 can be submitted from 1 January 2025.

HEALTHY MISA MEMBER CRITERIA

500 eligible MISA members (subject to 26 weeks’ consecutive contributions as at the date of claim) will each receive a R3 000 Healthy MISA Member Benefit, who from 1 January to 31 December 2024:

 

  1. Were not off sick from work of more that 2 (two) days with/ without the provision of medical certificate.

  2. Can provide written proof of medical examination or participation in a wellness campaign.

  3. Attend all medical surveillance examinations based on inherent job requirements and/or based on health requirements.

 

Application to be made:

  1. As from 1 January 2025 only (no applications received prior to this date will be considered.  

  2. Within 13 weeks (no later than 31 March 2025) as reckoned from 1 January 2025.

  3. In full, inclusive of the required source documents listed below to be CERTIFIED and dated by a COMMISSIONER OF OATHS OR POLICE STATION (NOT OLDER THAT 3 MONTHS).

    1. ID copy of member

    2. Proof of Medical Examination(s) done during the 2024 year

 

** Medical examination(s) must be exclusively for the purpose of regular medical check-up or screening; it must not be in addition or as a result of treatment for a medical condition (i.e. medical check-up when you are seeking treatment of an illness does not qualify). In order to be eligible, medical examination(s) must have been conducted by a medical practitioner registered with Health Professionals Council or South Africa; or

 

** The member participated fully in the wellness campaign and underwent all the medical checks offered during the campaign. The following minimum checks to have been done:

  1. Blood Pressure

  2. Blood Glucose – HbA1c

  3. Cholesterol

  4. Lipogram

  5. Weight Assessment

  6. BMI

  7. Name(s) and signature(s) of the wellness practitioner who administered the medical tests.

*** Invoices shall not be accepted as proof.

  • Proof or confirmation from the employer, on official company letterhead.

  • December 2024 Payslip

  • Stamped Bank Statement

            PLEASE NOTE:

  1. A member will only be eligible for either the Healthy Member benefit or the Healthy MISA Woman benefit, in one specific year.

  2. Applications will be treated on first-come-first serve basis, to only be submitted as from 1 January 2025, with the exclusion of:

    • Irregular/early submissions.

    • Incomplete applications.  

    • Break in membership contributions and

    • Applications which does not meet the required criteria.

HEALTHY MISA WOMEN CRITERIA

600 eligible female members (subject to 26 weeks’ consecutive contributions as at the date of claim) will each receive a R3 000 Healthy MISA Women Benefit, who from 1 January to 31 December 2024:

 

  1. Undertook a mammogram or pap smear.

Application to be made:

  1. As from 1 January 2025 only (no applications received prior this date will be considered);

  2. Within 13 weeks (no later than 31 March 2025) as reckoned from 1 January 2025;

  3. In full, inclusive of the relevant source documents listed below to be CERTIFIED and dated by a COMMISSIONER OF OATHS OR POLICE STATION (NOT OLDER THAT 3 MONTHS).

    • ID Copy of member

    • Proof of Mammogram or Pap smear (Report or Results), done during the 2024 year.

* Medical examination(s) must be conducted by a medical practitioner registered with the Health Professional Council of South Africa.

  • December 2024 Payslip

  • Stamped Bank statement
