MISA doubled its membership in just nine years against all odds.

Globally trade unions are battling declining membership. In South Africa, only 23% of employees wants to belong to a trade union while 77% prefers not to.

MISA has always pride itself as being unique in its approach to the future of the Union.

Its two Chief Executive Officers, Martlé Keyter (Operations) and Hermann Köstens (Strategy and Development) could not be more grateful for the support of every valued and loyal member of the Union.

MISA’s membership grew from 27 000 in 2013 to more than 54 000 today. This astonishing growth comes despite the loss of 3 000 members who were retrenched due to the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on our industry.

MISA engages in collective bargaining and representation of workers on various platforms, while continuing to grow the Union’s financial prosperity and enabling enhanced benefits.

Köstens says there is no equivalent in the market for MISA’s Death and Funeral Benefit.

MISA offers Healthy Member-, Maternity-, Retrenchment- and Ill-Health/Disability Benefits and training opportunities to empower members with Soft Skills Training, Study Assistance and Bursaries to MISA Member’s children.

Thanks to Keyter, MISA is the only trade union in South Africa with a Women’s Forum to empower women in the retail motor industry, and a Young Workers’ Forum, aimed at supporting young workers in the industry with access to education and training.

According to Keyter, the excellent teamwork of every staff member and office bearer at MISA plays such a vital role as member service is always given top priority.

“Each and every staff member and office bearer deserves the credit for MISA’s success story,” says Keyter.
