MISA, the Motor Industry Staff Association, invests in our future by giving a hundred of its members’ children in Grades 10 to 12 a chance to win R1 000 for having 55% or higher marks in English and two other subjects.
Martlé Keyter, MISA’s Chief Executive Officer: Operations, says MISA believes education is the first, most important, step to success in setting the basis of a child’s future, but hundreds of thousands of children are discouraged from learning.
“Out-of-school children in South Africa tripled from 250 000 to 750 000 in a year because of psychological, academic and socioeconomic reasons due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The total number of unemployed youth between the ages of 15 and 35 is 4,7 million.
“MISA established its Young Workers’ Forum in 2013 to empower young workers in the retail motor industry through education and training. It is a continued journey of learning new skills to remain relevant and abreast of developments in the industry. Our industry can only grow with new blood, our children, taking up opportunities,” says Keyter.
In May, MISA hosted more than eight hundred learners at the Union’s Career Expo’s nationwide.
“In celebration of Youth Month MISA wants to take our investment in our future to a next level. The first hundred children of MISA members who have been in good standing for 24 months or longer, who achieved 55% or higher in the first quarter exams in English and two other subjects, excluding life orientation, will win R1 000 to motivate them to continue studying,” says Keyter.
Applications for the #MISA School Excellence Competition closes on 30 June 2022. The first hundred applicants, who fits the criteria, will win.
The hundred winners will be announced on Nelson Mandela International Day, 18 July 2022.
The application forms will be available on #MISA’s website, www.misa.org.za, from 3 June 2022.
Keyter says she believes #MISA’s competition supports the official theme of Youth Month: “The Year of Charlotte Mannya Maxeke: Growing youth employment for an inclusive and transformed society.”
